Dating someone two years younger
I thought they’d match my maturity level, would “have their shit together” and would, in general, be better partners for me, the self-professed “old soul”.Usually the guys were 4 or 5 years older, sometimes they were 8 or 10 years older (and I went on one date with a guy who was like, 18 years older), but they were ALWAYS older. I recently started dating a younger man – he’s four years younger than me – and honestly? Here’s why: Editor’s note: I’ve opened this post a jillion times to try to write it without sounding like “in defense of this one particular younger man I’m dating”.But let's be fair: There's a reason we tend to date people who are closer in age.
I’m going to try to be objective here, but no promises.
Also I think I’m scared to publish this while we’re still dating for fear of jinxing the dang thing. He hasn’t been doing his own thing forever, so to speak, so there’s metaphorical room for me in his life.
For example, generally, you try to avoid people with two first names or those who abbreviate the word probably as “probs.” But you never know; that one awful abbreviator could be your soulmate.
So, I'm proposing this “8-year rule” in dating as an absolute.
What has been made disturbingly clear to me, is that if you dare put one foot outside the circle of acceptable, mainstream "normal" behaviour, it really messes with people and they simply can't help tell you about it.
I can't imagine what it must be like to be a good way outside the circle, like the young "Gay Cowboy", NSW rodeo rider Joshua Goyne, for example.
Obviously, the so-called "zone of non-creepiness" is not a hard-and-fast rule; when you are adults of consenting age, no one's going to punish you for violating this arbitrary guideline.
Still, it's worth noting that at every age level, "men aren't even close to reaching the upper bound of the zone of non-creepiness," "According to the Standard Creepiness Rule, it'd be perfectly fine for a 30-year-old man to date a 45-year-old woman, but apparently 30-year-old men are already struggling with the idea of dating a 37-year-old," he writes.
He has this wild amount of energy, which I capitalize on, and which makes me less of an old-ass hermit cat lady. Women have been dating younger men since the dawn of time, I’m sure. I noticed that I stopped referring to him by his nickname and pointing out our age difference, and with those walls down, I was able to admit that this had become an honest-to-goodness relationship.
Here are the reasons you wave off the idea of dating young: (aimless, noncommittal, out just for sex). But it didn’t seem to fit my reasons for dating younger, nor is it an accurate or flattering explanation of why younger men are worth dating.
Here are four problems you'll likely run into if you break the 8-year rule: I once went out with a woman who was under the impression that Lauryn Hill was made famous by being in “Sister Act 2.”Now, there are a few reactions you can have to this.Tags: Adult Dating, affair dating, sex dating
